Empowering Human Services

Supported Living Services in Idaho Falls and Eastern Idaho

Supported living means trained support staff come to your home — the participant's own house or apartment — for a set number of hours each week (commonly 30–70) to help with daily living, skills, community access, and health needs. It's one of the two main models of Idaho DD waiver residential support, and Empowering Human Services, LLC provides it across Idaho Region 7.

Who supported living is for

Adults with developmental disabilities (DD waiver) or physical/other disabilities (A&D waiver) who live in their own place (or could, with support) and don't need overnight staff. It preserves maximum independence: your home, your schedule, your rules — with professional support layered in.

What staff actually do

Supported living vs. 24-hour residential habilitation

If a person's assessment calls for high or intense supports (staff awake around the clock), that's the residential model — either in their own home with 24-hour staff or in a supported living residence with up to two roommates. Hourly supported living is the same service, sized to need. Many participants' support hours change over time as skills grow; the plan adapts.

How it's funded and how to start

ResHab is funded through two Idaho Medicaid waivers: the Developmental Disability (DD) waiver and the Aged & Disabled (A&D) waiver. If your family member is already on either waiver, you can choose EHS as your provider. If not, see our Start Here guide for how eligibility works.

If you're already waiver-eligible: call (208) 537-1463 and we'll discuss schedules and staffing for your plan within one business day. If you're new: the Start Here guide covers eligibility step by step.

Frequently asked questions

Is supported living the same as ResHab?

Supported living is the hourly model within the broader residential habilitation certification. In everyday Idaho usage, agencies like EHS that are certified for residential habilitation deliver both hourly supported living and 24-hour supports, under both the DD and A&D waivers. See What is ResHab?

Can supported living hours increase if needs change?

Yes — support levels are re-assessed and plans amended. If needs grow substantially, the plan can move to high or intense supports including overnight staff.

Who employs the staff?

In the traditional model, the agency employs, trains, schedules, and backs up the DSPs. That means you never have to hire, fire, or find coverage — that's our job.
